Direct Motion 3: Redefinition

Sometimes you have a structure that you want to animate - but it doesn't depend on any points that can be animated. Often you can solve this problem by redefining the points the structure depends on to be points which can be moved along segments, circles or arcs.

The file to the left contains a number of points that can be dragged. Drag these and see how the figure changes. However, none of these are on paths along which they can be animated.

In contrast, in the file on the right, the points on which the segments depend have been redefined and animated.

The demo redefinition for animation will show you how to create this file and redefine the points so that they can be animated.. It will also show you some very common mistakes with redefinition that you need to avoid.
